BMW Designer Says Apple Made White Cars Cool

Friday, September 7, 2012

Products like Apple's iPad have clearly influenced design across the consumer electronics industry, but one BMW designer feels that car consumers have taken notice as well. Silver was America's most popular car color for nearly 10 years, but now white has taken the crown. According to Sandy McGill, lead designer at BMW's DesignWorks for color, materials, and finish, you can credit Apple for that change.
"Prior to Apple, white was associated with things like refrigerators or the tiles in your bathroom. Apple made white valuable," McGill told Yahoo's Motoramic.

Just like the flood of new infotainment systems, design is being dictated more by the ever-increasing amount of technology we add to our lives...and automakers are surely noticing.
